One of my sons has been invited to join this honor society. Is this somethingn worth doing. He is not much into this type of stuff but I might encourage him to join if there is merit to this organization?

Is it worthwhile or just fluff?

Thanks

It is a national organization which only extends invitations to highly qualified freshmen. I think that it is worth the modest fee. They also offer scholarships.

I agree with twinboys. I checked the organization out after S was invited to join, and it seems legit in that a relatively high gpa is needed, and it seems to have some nice perks including possible scholarships. They also seem to encourage their members to do volunteer work, another good aspect of the group.

This is the blurb re: ALD at my daughter's college (she joined last year): Alpha Lambda Delta - National Freshman Academic Honorary
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national academic honorary for students who have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA and are in the top 20 percent of their class in their first year of college. Eligible students are invited to lifetime membership after winter quarter of their freshman year and are active in the chapter during their sophomore year. Members who continue to maintain the highest academic standing are eligible for various awards and scholarships, including a fellowship for graduate study.

The chapter at my daughter's school is quite involved in community service activities, and that's the primary reason she joined. I don't think she's given any thought to potential scholarships, awards or fellowships.
