I am completing a form for our local parents' club and have been asked to supply our plebe's alpha number. I remember hearing that our plebe would be issued an alpha number, but I do not remember actually seeing the number. I suspect that our plebe has that info, but that doesn't help me with the form.

Can anyone tell me if that info came in one of the packets we received from USNA, or where else I might be able to get that info? I don't want to waste precious phone call time asking our plebe! Thanks.

Louloo, Look at all of the numbers the Academy issued to your plebe. The alpha number is a 6-digit number, starting with "12" since that is your plebe's class year. The other 4 digits are assigned based on their proximity in the Naval Academy alphabet.

For example, if your last name was "Aardsma", your alpha code would be "120006." If it was "Zypher", it would probably be "127866". It starts at 0006 and goes up by 6's for every last name after that.

Just look for the number that starts with 12 for the class year. If the last name is in the M's, it will be 124xxx, or 1238xx. Your plebe's last name will be the indicator.

Once the Academic Year starts, the Alpha Number is also part of their USNA email address (the email will look something like M12xxxx@usna.edu and is also a part of their FedEx and UPS mailing address. (different from the US post office address).
