Already applied to a bunch of universities but need opinions

I am an international transfer student. Applied for Spring 2011 Computer engineering
My info:-
Highschool Gpa- around 2-2.5 i think with bad scores in Maths. (I dunno the conversion factor for calculating Gpa)

I have done three years of my Bachelor's degree in India in electronic science with a GPA of around 2.5-3.0
Done a final year electronics Project.

Done a lot of Diy project work at home.

Toefl score:- 98 ibt

Sat:- yet to receive

I have applied to Texas tech, Texas Arlington, Texas Dallas, Sunyit, Suny Buffalo, University of Toledo.

Most of the above universities have said that i donot need SAT scores if i have more than 30 credit hours after highschool. Could some one please explain how to calculate these credit hours?

Also would if be possible for you guys to tell me my chances of getting into texas tech, or texas dallas or Suny buffalo on my current academics?

I also needed some information about Sunyit, they seem to have a very low acceptance rate, but they arent ranked as good on US news. There is very little information about this university on this forum, could you guys give your opinions about this Sunyit.
Also how significant is the size of the school for a student?

I am also planing to apply to Purdue, will it be worth it? or will be wasting my time? Purdue university's website says that there is special standing given to student who have done post high school college level work.
Also how important is the college essay for admission in purdue?
Is admission to purdue worth 37000USD per year?

Will my age give me any advantage for on campus or off campus jobs or internships?
Will i be able to live off campus?

Will SAT scores help me in getting any kind of financial aid incase they arent required for the actual admission.?

And finally, what would be my salary on an average after getting out of a college like texas tech or suny Buffalo and a college like Purdue?

Thanks a lot guys, i am really looking forward for your opinions .... please do respond soon,

I don’t see how you can get in anywhere with a 2.0 GPA.

yea i know but for transfer students they also consider the post high school scores … which are not too bad …

bumping the thread … guys please reply …

The best source of information for you is [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) After you read through everything at that website, make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to you. There are several in India [EducationUSA - Find an Advising Center](India | EducationUSA) These people are expert at helping students from your country navigate the application process for colleges/universities in the US.

Since you have so many credits, it may be worth the time and money to have your university-level records professionally evaluated. There are a number of companies that provide this service, one that has a good reputation is [World Education Services - International Education Intelligence](http://www.wes.org/)

@happymomo: thanks man i will definately check it out. But will the evaluation of credits be helpfull? i heard that the universities have their own way converting credits, and plus will these guys be able to convert the credits on time … before the universities do?

Could u also tell me about the other queries that i had posted? about sunyit and purdue and the salary and stuff and my chances of getting into one these universites ?

THanks a lot i really appreciate your help

International students are very limited in terms of internships and working in the US. With a student visa you may work a total of 12 months. That includes internships while in college and training after. To stay and work in the US you would need to find a company to hire AND win the H1B lottery. Should you win, and the number of these visas is shrinking in this economy, you can work for the one company on a temp basis. You will often not get the salary your American peers are getting under these circumstances.

Bottom line, don’t do this if you think it will let you stay in the US, most can’t.

@redroses: that my friend is something that i will need to find out when the time comes, which i dont think will come for another 4 years … as i am also going to do masters after BS … and maybe just maybe PhD …so who knows …

But that aside … what are my chances in the mentioned universities? … which one of those do u think is easy to get into? just as damage control should i apply to any other university which is fairly good but easier to get into with my academics?

I don’t know how long it takes WES to process documents. I do know that many universities accept their transcript evaluations for international applicants to graduate school programs. Since courses with the same name can vary greatly between institutions, often universities will require this kind of external evaluation. You should be able to find information about which companies the particular university accepts evaluations from right on the university website.

yea i’ll do that. But what about my chances of getting in? … any other university that u can suggest which i can keep as plan B

I was planing to apply to University of central missouri and Mississppi state university, will these two be a safe backup ? … or are there any other options?
how is Indiana university-Purdue-Indianapolis? I heard they give a degree through Purdue University … is this university good? And does the degree hold the same value as Purdue?

I would really appreciate some inputs people…

Bumping the thread …

bump … please reply guys …

436 views? not a one replied? … come on guys … i really appreciate ur help

@sr2002

With regards to your question about age and internships, I do not think it makes a large difference.

In terms of salary after graduation, it very well depends on what career you embark on after college.

Voytek
[F1 to H1](http://f1toh1.com)

Even if you can stay, the schools you list will most probably li it jpbprospect to local, non high paying jobs.

THanks a lot for ur replies guys … its really helpful.

I needed some info about texas tech. Is Lubbock really that bad? … i keep hearing and seeing people nagging lubbock for its backwardness and being in the middle of nowhere.

Do these things affect the probability of on or off campus jobs?

Texas tech is rated 159th as a national university … which i feel is pretty good. But i wanted you opinions. Even Arizona state university is at a similar rank … but costs almost 10k$ more in tuition.

Could you guys please rate this college for Computer Engineering undergrad? …

Or do you think i should consider other options?
