Applied to:
University of Houston
University of Texas San Antonio
University of Texas Austin
Texas A&M
Cornell (ED)

I don't mind any school, except any small private/religious schools.

It must feel great to have those applications done!
What kind of school do you feel is missing from your list?
Would you like to be able to play club hockey in college?

I was just looking for some suggestion, I’m majoring in biology, and I wanted to apply to some top schools which would like applicants like me. However, I realize my SAT/Rank are extremely poor.

I might just stick with those, but my worry is i’ll end up going to Texas-San-Antonio, I really want to get into UT Austin! I’m taking 7 AP classes this year, and only now do I realize that I can succeed in those kinds of classes. I was too hesitant to take them freshman/sophomore year… that’s why my rank is so low.

I would like to play club hockey, A&M, UTSA, UTA, Cornell all have them, so it’s covered! Thanks.

*SAT: 600 (V) 650 (M) 730 (W)

Rank: 160/693

*

You’re rank is in the top 25% …is that right?

Is UT-San Antonio your financial safety school ( a school that you KNOW that you can afford all costs)?

Your SAT score and your rank are low for Cornell. From below, it doesn’t look like the Writing section (your strongest section) is given a lot of consideration. Anyone know??

Test Scores
Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: 630 - 730
SAT Math: 660 - 770
SAT Writing: - -

Your scores are in the bottom 25%.

If I’m reading your rank correctly, Texas A&M will be difficult as well.

Will you be happy at your other 3 schools? Are they affordable?

How much will your family pay each year?

What is your likely FAFSA EFC?

Do you have a non-custodial parent?

I think you need to apply to another full-need school that wants URMs. You’re male, right?

What is your intended career as a bio major?

but my worry is i’ll end up going to Texas-San-Antonio

Is that school close enough to commute to?

I’m also concerned that you don’t really have a financial safety school that you want to go to.

Answer the above questions and we can help you better.

Thanks for replying,
I have safety schools: U of H, San Antonio, and A&M (even the top 40% from my school get in)
Reach schools are: UT and Cornell

I don’t need scholarships/FAFSA, and I don’t mind the commute, I’ll stay in the dorm/appt.
I’m pretty sure I have guaranteed admission for CAP, so I’ll opt for that if I don’t get into UTA straightaway.

BTW: my school is pretty competitive, blue-ribbon school, etc.

I want to go to medical school.

Congrats on finishing your apps so early!

I’d definitely consider adding UT-Dallas. They’ve got a strong bio program with very active pre-med guidance and close ties to UT Southwestern Medical School. Historically, the highest number of admits to UTSW have come from UT-A, TAMU and then UTD. Scroll down to see their “brag” on this page, [Natural Sciences & Mathematics - UT Dallas](School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics)

Good luck!

Thanks, I’ll look into it!
