When I took my subject tests this may, I chose to submit all may previous scores to my top 4 schools - Dartmouth, Williams, brown, and Georgetown. My scores are 2160 for reg sat (670 CR/750 N/ 740 W). For sat subjects I got 790 math 2, 770 USH, 720 chem.

my ACT, however is much better. I have a 34 (36 E/35 M/34 R/31 S + 8 essay)

Will the fact that my sat is in the low end for these schools hurt me or will it not matter since my act is good?

Most schools consider your highest score.

So does that mean they convert act or look at both but judge based on act?

Most schools don’t convert scores anymore; ACT is ACT and SAT is SAT. They’ll look at both if you sent both, but test scores usually don’t end being a make-it-or-break-it factor, so it probably will not make a big difference what your SAT is if it’s in the same general range to your ACT.

Of course, you could always take the SAT again. If you got a 790 math 2, you can at least get your math subscore on the SAT up a bit, and hopefully bump up that reading one, too.

You’re fine. They’ll probably look at both but primarily consider whatever they think are your best scores. That will probably be your ACT.

While they usually don’t actually convert the score for consideration, they do have a general idea of how SAT and ACT scores compare and can use that to determine which scores are the best scores based on what they’re looking for.
