Already too late for scholarships? ***?

Ok, I got my admissions to College of Engineering a few days ago. This is my #1 school to go to, but it turns out the deadline for scholarships from the school has already ended, December 1! What gives; were you supposed to fill out the application for scholarship way before your admission letter?

It's gonna be 40,000 a year total for me (out of state), and I'll need some major money if I have any chance to go.. :(

Take a look a this link:

http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/scholarships/index.html

The application deadline in order to be considered for a scholarship at UT was December 1st. Unfortunately, the deadline was firm.

how did you come up with 40k a year?

tuition is only 20

Are you by any chance a National Merit Scholar Finalist? I believe UT will waive out of state tuition.

Yeah and can't you reapply for scholarships after freshman year anyway?
The engineering department gives out lots of scholarships.

Definitely apply for departmental scholarships for next year. Most departments have them (I know journalism does), and they're easier to get than university-wide scholarships.

Err no I don't think I'm a Scholar Finalist. I say 40,000 cause that includes everything like Room and Board, books, etc.

This sucks, and I don't think my parents are willing to pay first year, I might as well go to U of I (in state) which is 15,000 a year. So can I transfer to Austin after 1 year, and have applied for the scholarships by then, cause that would work out nice.

Wow, that sucks I'm sorry.

If I were you, I'd still send in an application I mean, it can't hurt you to try and I'm pretty sure the scholarship application was free. I think somewhere I read that is the "priority deadline" so just try.

Best of luck, I hope you end up going to UT!

December was the priority deadline, not the 'firm' deadline.

the scholarship app is closed. no one can apply anymore. try for outside scholarships. there are still a lot out there.

Meh... forget it. I'm not going to UT :(

It's just too much hassle and I doubt anything I get will put a dent into the tuition I have to pay. Bleh now I have to settle for U of I, which is similar, but it gets cold in the winter :( Thanks for the help though, have fun at UT.

Awww, I am sorry Cyrone :( Best of luck @ UI-Urbana-Champaign.

It's a great school :) I'm sure you will have a great college experience. And besides, with all this global warming it probably won't be THAT cold in the winter anymore. Hahaha.

Al Gores says yes, 12 feet of snow at once up north this winter says no.
