Alternate List? Help?

Hi everyone, I'm an international student who applied RD to Rochester, and was put on the alternate list. The email said only 3% of all applicants are put on this list, so I am slightly confused! Is this the same as being waitlisted? 3% sounds like a very small percentage of people to put on a waitlist!

From reading past threads, I'm aware that my chances of being taken off of the waitlist and being accepted are slim, but I can keep hope I guess! Anyone else here been put on the 'alternate list'? Anyone have any knowledge of this list?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, being an alternate is the same as being waitlisted. Historically UR takes only a few students off the waitlist. The exact number varies from year to year.

UR is need aware when taking alternates off the waitlist.

Time to move on, OP. Focus on the alternatives to URoc. That plane has flown.

Let’s say they had 16,000 applicants and admitted 5,800 of them for a 36% admit rate. But they will only enroll about 1300 for a 22.5% yield. Well if they wait list 3% of 16,000, that is another 500 or so students (3% of original number of applicants, not 3% of spots). Their yield would have to be lower than 22.5% to get into the wait list, and as I understand, they over-enrolled the past couple of years, so they may just let it go if they end up a little under this time. And I am glad you two made up, by the way ;-)

Funny, all that back and forth btw me and the OP has been elided. Is that you, Big Brother?

perhaps I should have said redacted.
