Alternate majors

<p>A few questions (mainly about alternate majors):</p>

<ol>
<li><p>Is putting a major down as an alternate major going to hurt my chances of being admitted to that major?</p></li>
<li><p>Let’s say I picked computer science and engineering as my first choice major and computer science as my alternate, and get rejected from the computer science and engineering major. How high are my chances of getting admitted into the computer science major? </p></li>
<li><p>Is computer science and engineering significantly harder to get into than computer science? </p></li>
<li><p>How hard is it to switch to the college of engineering from the college of letters and science? How hard is it the other way round?</p></li>
<li><p>Which of these is more likely to get me admitted:</p></li>
</ol>

<p>First choice major: computer science and engineering
Alternate major: computer science</p>

<p>OR</p>

<p>First choice major: computer science
Alternate major: computer science and engineering</p>

<p>Or is there no difference?</p>

<p>1) Well yea, because if you get into your first choice then obviously you won’t get into your second.</p>

<p>2) A bit higher because engineering is much more selective.</p>

<p>3) Yes.</p>

<p>4) Not very hard that way, but the other way around you need a higher GPA and some pre req classes.</p>

<p>5) Not sure if there is a difference; all I know is normal CS is easier to get into than Engi CS.</p>

<p>I agree with niklas, but I think Engineering at Davis isn’t as competitive as other schools, so there may be a higher chance by you selecting your first choice. Computer science is really competitive though. At engineering/general career fairs, all the companies look for programmers or computer science majors.</p>
