Hi, I’m currently a junior in high school, and this is the year where PSAT is counted towards national merit. I did not know this, and actually thought my sophomore year was the counted one. The only problem is that I missed the registration deadline for the PSAT, and so unfortunately I can not take it at all. I’ve heard about the alternate pathway to NMS, where you have to mail them a letter regarding the situation, and then if accepted, you can send an SAT score instead. Does anyone have any advice on what to do next.?
Here’s some info for last year. You might want to reach out and find out if it’s still good in this year. I don’t know.
Unable to Take the PSAT/NMSQT?
If you do not take the 2022 PSAT/NMSQT because
of illness, an emergency, or other extenuating
circumstance, you may still be able to enter the
2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. To
request information about another route of entry
after the Fall 2022 PSAT/NMSQT administration,
write to NMSC as soon as possible but no later than
April 1, 2023. The alternate entry request should
include your name and home address, the contact
information of the person making the request, the
name and address of your high school, and a brief
explanation of why you missed the test. Do not
delay; the earlier you write, the more options you
will have for scheduling test dates.
Mail your request to:
