How does the admission process work if I were to apply as a Bioengineering major and Biochemistry as my alternative? Like would the School of Engineering automatically pass my app to L&S if I am not accepted in my selected major or would it just be completely thrown out?

Seeing how they are in different schools, is this even allowed?

And how would this affect my chance of admission?

Thank you

No, if you put bioengineering as your first choice ucla will only consider your admission for bioengineering. So if you don’t get in, yes they will throw out your admission all together and won’t consider you for biochemistry. I believe you would have an easier time getting into biochemistry than bioengineering, but if bioengineering is what you want to do you need to be admitted as a freshman. Don’t expect to come to ucla as a biochemistry major and be able to switch, it would be EXTREMELY difficult. If you came in as a bioengineering major and wanted to switch to biochemistry, you would have an easy time doing that.

That’s… reassuring… :(

Thank you, I think I will apply as a Biochemistry major.
