Alternative study abroad in latin america?

<p>Hey everyone! I'm not able to study abroad this year, so I was planning on spending some of my summer in Latin America... I guess I'm not too picky about the type of program (honestly, I don't really want to take classes over the summer). I was wondering if anyone knew of any interesting programs, volunteer opportunities, etc. in Latin America (I want to practice my spanish). </p>

<p>I already know about SIT and CIEE... thats not really what I'm looking for... but I'm looking to spend up to 6 weeks ANYWHERE. Ideas?</p>

<p>Why not just backpack around or just get an apartment somewhere. I did that in Colombia for a month. Was a great time all around. Cut out the middleman.</p>
