What are some food options that are cheap, convenient and healthy?

I won't be subscribing to the over-inflated fast food meal plan offered at my college for the first time, so I'm going to need to begin doing my own shopping.

Unfortunately, this will be the first time I'm independent and buying my own food, so I just wanted to get some ideas on meals, how much I should spend, etc.

I'll have access to any kind of food and a full kitchen in my apartment.

Thanks for the help!

Just try to watch what you eat, make sure you get some form of fruit and veggies into your meals and obviously don’t buy bulk orders of Ramen (I know its good) and twinkies. Personally I haven’t made my own food in a while since I can eat in the mess hall for free (in the military) but I use to make pastas, quesodillas, sandwiches and whatever else I might happen to see that was good looking. All the ingredients to those meals are pretty cheap…mostly health and pretty filling.

If you look on all recipes and food network, you can find some particularly good, easy recipes that aren’t too expensive to make.
On food network they have “five ingredient fix” and “money saving meals”, both of which would come in handy.
