I got into UCI with Biological Sciences and I tried to change my major to Engineering

they responded:

Change of majors can not be granted for the School
of Engineering. Once you are a student here in
the Fall, you can contact the School about
petitioning for one of their majors.

since I wasn't able to get into Engineering what should I major on during my first year at Irvine that would most likely get me into Engineering?

I also got into riverside with engineering, should I just go there or risk being rejected again from UCI engineering?

You can change majors once you meet the requirements. You should be able to get into those required classes since most of them are science/math pre-reqs are open to bio majors too

Maybe physics major seems pretty close to the Engineering major…I mean, the classes aren’t that much different and yeah, seems like a good place to go in before switching to a specific type of engineer.

math or physics. make sure you take whatever calc classes you need (2A, 2B, or 2J, whatever) and whatever physics class you need (I think you start with 7C in the winter now).

Being a math or physics major is probably your best bet. However, it’s not particularly better. Nor is being an undeclared major particularly better.

It’s actually really easy to switch from one college to another. You just need a 3.0+ (for engineering) on all the pre-requisites required to enter the major (2.7+ for other schools) aka math, physics, programming.

You will be able to get into engineering. You will more likely give up trying to be an engineer before you get denied switching into engineering =]. Start as an engineering-major-hopeful during your first quarter first. You can explore other options as you discuss with other people and take GE courses.

UCI offers a wide variety of majors, although sometimes not as many as other universities. It’s safe to say that UCI offers all the fundamental majors one can use to get into any career or graduate school

Not sure what you mean. Only Irvine, Berkeley and Riverside have undergrad business majors.

You’re right about engineering, but under what circumstances is that every not true? (fyi, biology’s worthless as an undergrad degree unless you’re going to med school. In that case, you can major in whatever you want).

Hi I attended the Discover Day Engineering session for UCI and spoke with one of the people in the engineering department. She said that your best bet in transfering to the engineering school is by sneakily enrolling in the Mathematics or Physics major. Undeclared isn’t the best she said, they want to see that you are committed to the math and physics that are heavily involved in engineering. so yea :)

^I’ll second that. I’ve heard this throughout my four years. Although they don’t really judge your transfer based on how “dedicated” you are. If you have the GPA necessary, you’ll be 100% fine.
