alternatives for TASP

I have to accept the fact that I got rejected and am now starting to find alternatives. My last resort would just be summer school. I also applied to Clark but I feel that I failed the essays and did not even send in the complete application package. Days ago I may have been more idealistic but now I realize that I have to be realistic.

Could CCers list some of programs whose deadlines have not passed yet? I am an international student (Canada) and I virtually have no money to spend on summer programs.

What should I do for the summer???

volunteer work.

I’m roughly in the same boat as happysunnyshine, another rejected TASP applicant. I’m really looking for a summer program related to politics, international relations, public policy, or economics or something in that vein. Money isn’t much of an object for me, but I want a program that attracts kids who are interesting, intelligent, and genuinely intellectually curious – not just kids whose parents shipped them off somewhere.

Also, sunnyshine (and any other TASPlicants who happen to see this) if you feel like it, please let me know what you’re looking at/end up doing. I feel like any person who’s interested in TASP is someone who I could socialize with (and there’s definitely a shortage of those currently).

I’m just hoping and hoping I can get into at least one of the creative writing workshops I applied for, but my optimism tank is a little short at the moment. :/

Besides that, I have nothing, besides perhaps preparing for the next school year and maybe taking a few community college courses. Sigh.

I didn’t make it to TASP either :frowning:
Maybe make your own internship? I know this is fairly common in scientific research, but it should be possible in other fields too…

economic research? politics? preferably something where you would learn, and wouldn’t have to just get coffee, etc. Like, email profs in the field at a nearby university, asking for an internship…

We can always get together and create our own TASP. :D

Didn’t make it either. Oh well. I only applied for one other program, and that’s UDOC. I’m interested in stuff involving the medical field, and I hope that someday I’ll be a doctor. Having issues finding programs that don’t cost over $4000 to apply for.

If I can’t find anything and don’t get accepted to UDOC I’m working on my Associate’s Degree. Not the way I want to spend my summer, though.

Hahaha yes, let’s all fly up together somewhere and create our own seminar and bring lots of books and write lots of papers!

I got rejected too. I wish life would just give me a break once in a while.

I absolutely love this idea! Are you guys actually interested in pursuing? Maybe doing an online conference or an actual meeting? It is not impossible and its realization will probably satisfy our hearts because I personally really want to meet you!
Maybe we can meet on campuses one year from now? I am so glad that I’ve met all you guys on CC. You guys have given me confidence, nervousness, happiness, sadness and all the other emotions possible.

Yeah, I’d definitely love to meet you all, accepted or not. Who gets accepted is up to the whims of the application readers, but showing the initiative to apply to TASP is a good signal all by itself. I dunno if a real-life meeting is possible, but we could stay in contact throughout the college admissions process, help each other out, and see if any of us are interested in the same places. (I’m sure there’ll be some overlap)

We should make one for TASP rejects.

I created one… but i made a grammar mistake… I will make another one then.

Group was created!!
Name:
TASP 2010- We are still the winners!!

I can’t get to it for some reason…

could you just see it through my public profile? I’ve never done the group thing before…

sunnyshine, i absolutely agree with you. i haven’t posted much on cc at all, but i’ve been lurking around the tasp thread since i applied and i feel much the same way. i think the biggest disappointment for me was knowing that for another year, i would have be around unmotivated, insincere and purposeless people. i was so looking forward to meeting others who are genuine in their interest to cultivate their own intellectual growth. but i see that that’s still not impossible.

right now i’m applying for a questbridge scholarship and the yale ivy scholars program. i wanted to do something related to politics, foreign relations, etc. and the ivy scholars program seemed to fit that decently. i also thought about clark scholars but the application date is so close…

Come on, let’s be positive. I don’t like the word.

oh, is anyone planning on applying to either of the telluride houses this fall?
