Hi, I'm an out-of-state junior for both schools with a 2050 PSAT and 4.4. weighted GPA with decent ECs, recs, and AP Classes... I really love UNC and UVA and would be delighted with acceptance to either, but realize that I am a boring applicant. If UVA/UNC don't work out... does anyone know of other strong academic schools on the East Coast?

To narrow that list down, I would prefer:
Medium/Large Size >2000, <20,000
Good science programs
Not insanely preppy or overly studious, a good mix of students

Ok, reading this over, I couldn't have been more vague, but whatever.. if anyone has ideas, they would be much appreciated

I know it's not east coast, but Michigan Ann Arbor has many similarities to UNC, though that may also be a reach for you. UGA comes to mind too.

Allegheny
Carnegie Mellon
Clemson (in-state tuition if SAT high enough)
Colgate
College of Charleston
Emory
Georgia Tech
Johns Hopkins
Skidmore
U Miami
U Richmond
U Rochester
Union
Vanderbilt (has worked very hard to lose preppy image)
Vassar
Wake Forest

I have the same question as you mi22. UVA is probably my #1 choice right now but it is a reach (like it is for nearly all applicants). My brother got in with very similar stats as I have (Yours are better though). I don't really have any suggestions for you but I thought your question was pretty interesting as I have about the same issue.

PS- I thought the previous reply had some excellent options.

Actually I disagree with chaoses completely. None of those are ANYTHING like UNC or UVA. Frankly there aren't too many schools with about 15K undergrad students, awesome college towns, diverse social scenes, nice weather, and top students. Miami, Ohio is similar in that it has a beautiful campus and is of similar size, but its much more conservative than UNC/ UVA.
