(Sorry if this is the wrong place, I'm new to the site)

I'm considering a career as an actuary, but there aren't many colleges that offer an actuarial science major. However, I think that majoring in math should be good preparation as well, maybe also joining an actuarial club or minoring in actuarial science.

So, my question:
What are the best undergrad math majors to prepare for a career as an actuary?

Also, if you are an actuary or are studying to become one, what would you suggest I do in high school and what college did you attend or are you attending?

I have one friend who became an actuary, for a time at least. He majored in math at MIT. His actuarial training happened on the job at an insurance company. He later went on to other things.

You do not need to major in actuarial science; many go into actuarial work from statistics, math, or other majors.

See http://www.beanactuary.com for more information on preparation for actuarial work. You can check the VEE course listings for various colleges (the VEE courses in statistics, economics, and finance are fairly common).
