Alternatives to the Common Arts Supplement for free-time artists?

I'm asking on behalf of a '09er friend of mine:
She enjoys drawing and painting, and has a reasonably extensive portfolio of completed works. She no longer has an "art teacher", and has not taken any art courses in her high school years, and so if she were to use the Common App's Arts Supplement to supplement her application, two of the three criteria would be conspicuously absent.

My question is, when a student is involved in art to the extent that it makes up a significant part of her as a student (and would presumably be of interest to admissions reps), but does not follow an active course of arts study, should she/how should she present this part of her in her application? Should she leave it as an entry on her EC list, or perhaps attach a few examples with a note explaining why an actual arts supplement wouldn't be appropriate?

yes i wondering the same....
