Alternatives?

Hey guys!

I applied ED and got rejected :( Of course I'm upset because I thought Swat was right for me and I thought I was right for Swat, but ce la vie. Obama got rejected too, so their loss, I guess!

Anyway, I'm trolling for alternatives to round out my college list. I'm looking for LAC's or small, undergrad-focused universities that are great in science (and music, to a lesser extent) with a campus culture that trends towards quirky on the jocky-quirky spectrum (I come from a super snobby NYC prep school so I'd like to get away from the "gossip girl" stuff if possible), and an artistic vibe if possible (I'm a musician). Of course, the campus culture stuff comes secondary to the undergrad-focused and great in science parts. I'd prefer not to talk about stats, but I have it on good authority that Grinnell and Hamilton are good safeties for me, so if you could please tell me anything on that level or above that would be wonderful.

Right now here's my list:

Princeton
Brown
Pomona
Carleton
Wesleyan
Vassar
Rice
Hamilton
Grinnell

Thanks!

ltrentiparoli

How about Oberlin? Good sciences and music. (They have a separate music school, so no question they have outstanding music on campus.)

Reed is quirky and good in science too.

Hamilton and Grinnell safeties? What if they reject you? What will you do then?

I appreciate the concern, International95, but I state, again, that I have it on good authority that I can consider Hamilton and Grinnell safeties.

To those who are actually contributing something meaningful to this discussion, thanks! and keep the suggestions coming!

UChicago and Reed are somewhat Swat-like.

I second Oberlin. Similar academically, different vibe overall.

Haverford!!!

You can’t go wrong with Haverford Sciences. Also they are in very similar locations and they both have Quaker backgrounds.
