Would appreciate advice from any knowledgeable poster. Son admitted today to Altoona but we were just advised that there is not on campus housing left. A bit disappointed as it was his first choice after UP. Has anyone confronted a similar situation and, if so, how did you reach a satisfactory resolution? Admissions advises that they will likely place him at another branch with housing. We may consider that option. Does anyone have any recommendations for other branches (Berks has also filled up its on campus housing alotment).

Thanks, from whom did you hear that? I was told by University Park admissions that Altoona fills up first because a large number of prospective students select Altoona as their first choice. Admissions addresses those applications first and the housing fills up accordingly. Also, Altoona admissions indicated they are on waiting list already.

I’m attending Altoona in the fall. I heard that from my other friend that got accepted to Altoona. I’ve heard a bunch of things. I heard that they would open up contracts in a month. But i also heard that if you’re on the waiting list, you wont know if you got housing until the first week of August. Maybe you should call Altoona and discuss the options. :/

Thanks, we did call Altoona and, unfortunately, I don’t think your friend’s information is accurate. Housing is presently closed and while they can put you on a waiting list, they do not expect housing to open up.

what number did you call to recieve campus housing information? i have tried a bunch and they all just keep refering me to the [Altoona Student Housing](http://www.altoonastudenthousing.com) website which i do not find too helpful.
i had a friend tell me that he didnt really enjoy the erie campus, for what specific reasons, im not sure.
i was accepted to altoona and i guess that ill have to start looking into off campus housing, i just have no idea on where to start or who to call. im unsure how all this works, none of my friends are planning to go to altoona so if i live off campus how do i find a roomate?

When I visited Altoona, they told me all student housing on campus would probably be full, come end of December/ January. They suggested if that happened to rent an apartment or other off campus housing oppurtunities. On [Student Housing : Rentals Classifieds : Central PA Landlords Rentals Altoona University Student Housing student housing, penn state, student rental, apartments, house rental,](http://www.centralpalandlords.com/rental_blair_county.php?cid=47) they give you off campus housing apartments and such based on space and money. Thing is, you would need to know other people going there or be willing to rent with someone you don’t really know. If you go to [Penn State Altoona](http://www.aa.psu.edu) they eventually forward you to that page, as far as off campus housing is concerned. These are apartments & housing recommended by the PSU Altoona site, so it’s more than likely a reliable source.
Hope it helps!

Wait, so does that mean even the people on the waiting list wont get housing? My “roommate” doesnt have a room yet. I’m hoping if I put her on my housing contract it will help.

thanks for the info!
im looking into living at Penn View Suites that are extremely close by. they seem more livable than the housing at nittany point.

@ufan24 don’t quote me, cuz I don’t know anything about a waiting list, I haven’t even gotten accepted yet, but I imagine if you’re on a waiting list you’re in on campus housing-wise. Like I said, though, I’m not sure. I’d contact them & ask if you’re worried. @haaay12 same!!! I was looking at Penn View & Nittany Pointe. Have you actually gone and looked at any apartments there yet? Or just looked online?

lduck50 i only looked at places online. altoonas pretty far for me so i will have to find an apartment online. ive seen many comments on how dirty Nittany Pointe is with old pizza crusts in couches and foreign objects in pipes, haha, it just sounds so gross. although, there are many good comments on the apartments as well. they have really nice lounges and i like the pool, haha.
there was a recent comment on the college ******* site where someone said that if someone were to live off campus, they should go to the Penn View suites. this was a comment from 2010 so im leaning towards believing the recent opinions.
but im still extremely confused on which place has the best apartments. what about you, have you visited any in the area? do you have an opinion on which one is better?

@haaay12 I’ve visited the campus, but no apartments. Altoona is about 2 hours away from me, so I might go visit with the roommates I have in mind and decid then. But, yeah I haven’t heard wonderful tihngs about Nittany Pointe either & I don’t knwo anyone that goes there so it’s not like I can just ask. I guess I’ll just have to visit. :/

lduck50, i completely know how you feel. knowing someone who goes there would have made things so much easier. i guess ill have to take the crazy trip out there too since where im going to live is extremely important.
how did you like the campus? people are making it sound so dry and boring, its worrying me.

@haaay12 I mean, it’s a small campus & I probably wouldn’t just spend my weekends there. It looks really quaint & cute though. On the weekends I’d prob take a bus they have to University Park where a lot of my friends & other people I know go. So, It’s not like there aren;t things to do.

lduck50, that doesnt sound bad at all, thanks. your lucky you know so many people at penn state! it makes it a whole lot easier to get used to and to enjoy. all of my friends are staying in new york, but personally im not a fan of the city or the sunys upstate. hopefully ill get the chance to visit before i make the deposit and everything.
