Elena Kagan ’81 is currently the Dean of Harvard Law School. She had previously been nominated for a seat on the DC Court of Appeals by Clinton but the Republican controlled Senate refused to act on the nomination which then died when Clinton’s term ended shortly thereafter. Kagan has been frequently mentioned as a possible future nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. Should she be confirmed by the Senate (which seems highly likely) she will be the country’s first female Solicitor General. The Solicitor General represents the interests of the federal government before the U.S. Supreme Court.
