So basically what you all are saying is that these emails my son keeps getting are "teasers" and have no bearing on whether or not he is accpeted!! He got the invitation to attend the Math, Science & Physics session, which he went to last Sunday and now just received an email to apply for the Alumni Leadership Scholarship. How frustrating to get these emails and have them not give any clues as to admission status! How many others got this Alumni email??

Hey there!

Officially, being considered for the Alumni Scholarship doesn't have any bearing on admissions decisions. I received the same emails when I was applying to Berkeley back in 2005 (and I was accepted), so I think it's definitely a good sign! Sometimes, though, UC admissions are just too weird to figure out. Whatever it is, though, it's certainly not a bad sign.

Best of luck, and Go Bears!

I think many, if not most, of Berkeley's applicants got the Alumni email. As it says at the bottom, it means nothing to admission status.

Really, it has nothing to do with admissions, but it is definiely worth the application.

I think everyone gets an invitation to apply for the Alumni Scholarship. It is definitely worth the application since it takes less than an hour to finish the prompt and you can get upwards of $4000, free campus printing, some networking opportunities, and other perks.

^ Apparently it's the top 30% of the applicant pool who receive the invitations, at least for UCLA...according to post#23 in "Email for leadership award alumni scholarship". Does anyone have further info on that?
If so, it looks good ( although that would be about 16000, right? if there are around 55,000 applicants)
