Alumni Giving as a Measure of College Satisfaction and Enthusiasm

My sister has always felt more compelled to give to her alma mater as opposed to her grad school because she received full-tuition from the school. She told me she felt it was her obligation (happily done) since her education was relatively free and helped get her where she is today.

I hope most scholarship students will give back to their schools so that other students following behind them can be helped the same way. Unfortunately, since college is sooo expensive nowadays, I think some students think "i was a great student - i earned that scholarship - they were lucky to have me there." Don't know if that will translate into a contributing alum.

What exactly is the cut off for how much a "donation" is? If every alumni gave 50 bucks, would that be 100% giving? I'm a bit confused.
