So I haven't heard much about this college, but was interested in it. Why is it soo less publicized than MIT or CalTech? Where are the differences?

FIT is just 50 years old. MIT is almost 150 years old, Caltech is over 120 years old, even George Tech is 85 years old. That relative youth means a smaller campus, fewer facilities and a lower endowment from alumni. It is sufficient to provide a good education and a great college experience, even though not quite what the others provide.

FIT is a third tier school, while MIT and Caltech are among the top schools in the world and clearly first rank institutions. The average freshman SAT I (CR + M) for FIT is 1147 while at MIT it is 1485 - the upside is that it is quite a bit easier to be admitted to FIT.

I attended back in the early days, with far fewer buildings and faculty than you are at FIT today. It was a very good experience even then and the school has certainly grown richer, stronger and broader in the 35 years since I last studied there.

How does it compare to USF or UCF?

All three are tier 3 schools. I am not that familiar with UCF or USF but the one obvious initial difference is size. FIT has about 5,000 students while the other two are nearly ten times larger in school population. Secondly, those two are public schools while FIT is private.
