I received an email from a Cornell alum on November 24th. He basically introduced himself and said "let me know if you have any questions regarding the process, about Cornell, transitioning from high school to CU, post-Cornell, etc." He did not mention a one-on-one informational meeting like those I have read about. I'm confused - should I just email this guy back with some questions or am I the one who is supposed to initiate a personal "interview"?

If he didn’t mention one, you don’t have to schedule a one-on-one interview. But if you don’t do an interview, you should ask some REALLY good questions and maintain contact with this alum. You might be better off scheduling an interview. Say “I would love to discuss more about Cornell University, could we schedule a time to meet” (etc.)

Did he leave a phone number? Call him back personally. See if you can arrange a time to meet in the next couple of days.

It’s very possible he has a huge load of students to contact, and is just trying to reach out to them via e-mail to see if they have any questions, since this is the early decision round (making an assumption here).
