alumni interview question

Hi everyone,

I just got my first alumni interview email! She wants to do the interview in her house. What do you all think? Is that normal? She asked in the email if I’m comfortable with it.

Any thoughts, answers, and recommendations are greatly appreciated!

it is normal and acceptable, although less common these days. The reason for the decline, BTW, isn’t necesssarily worry about the interviewer. It’s you

Adults have a lot to lose if they are accused by a kid of harassing them, perhaps one angry they didn’t get accepted. Arranging to meet in a public place obviates that concern.

I’m sure there probably is some alumni perv interviewer out there, but the chances that they’d go to the trouble of signing up as an interviewer and give out their name and address seem less than hanging out in the local mall or on MySpace.

So I wouldn’t worry about it, but it would also be fine if you just emailed back and suggested a local coffee shop.

I’ve done that before for Carleton College. They were really nice, had snacks, and lots of pamphlets and information. If for some reason you are uncomfortable, you could always tell them that and arrange to meet in a public place, but it is generally pretty normal and you could always have a parent wait outside by the driveway.

Thank you @mikemac and @shawnspencer! I just confirmed
