Alumni Interview TOMMOROW!

The alumni just called me and told me I had to come do my interview tommorow. Does anyone know what kind of questions are asked on the interview? How long it will last? Anything? Please help, I am very nervous and I hate interviews.

Doesn't matter man, just go in and be yourself.

I have mine on Thursday right after school, so I don't even dress up or anything. He said it is a really informal and serves two purposes: 1) To give you the opportunity to ask questions about Duke (My dad went to Duke so he said he's not expecting me to ask anything along these lines) and 2) To provide another way for the admissions committee to get to know you beyond SAT scores and GPA.

Mine is being held at his office downtown, but I'm not sure where everyone else's is; I heard of one guy who met an alumnus at a Starbucks (this was for Rice University, though). I was told it will probably not last too long over 30min.

Definitely just go in confident and be yourself. Be prepared to discuss your ECs I would think also.

BlueDevil1027 is right on about the purpose of the interview. There is not anything you can really do to prepare, but there are lots of different approaches from the various interviewers with regard to the types of questions that are asked so you will probably be asked about things other than just your ECs. Also, while you don't have to get dressed up, do be presentable and neat. Finally, be yourself. Interviewers can tell when you are trying to give them the answers you think they may want to hear. Also, some last a little longer--mine generally have been up to an hour. Set aside enough time just in case. Good luck!

I had my interview with Duke last Saturday. I had it at Diane's which is a bakery. My advice for the interview is to just be yourself and you'll seem interesting.

I had mine at a Panera.

starbucks...very informal...i wore a button up and sweater though...I wouldn't suggest going in jeans but that's just me

at my interview the person talked the who time about himself and not about me... like he'd ask me a question and then he'd elaborate himself... i said i write, and he said "oh, i was an english major."and then he'd talk all about his english classes and stuff. i guess it was good for him to talk to me about his experiences and stuff, but i'd wished that i had an opportunity to talk more. anyways, it's very very informal. the interviewer said it can't make or break an application but it's a way for the committee to get to know more about you... so don't stress. i think an outstanding interview can't push you over, but a horrible interview (like if you come looking and acting like a meth addict) will definitely keep you out. good luck!

I just got back from my interview. It was at Starbucks, and lasted about an hour. I loved it, now I'm even more in love with Duke than I was before (if that's possible :) )
