Alumni interview

Has anyone been contacted by an alumnus/alumna for a interview? I applied EA & I was contacted this evening. Will meet with her next week, also have an interview appointment at the Hotel School.

You mean you applied ED. Yes, I got contacted a while ago. Just be yourself and you'll be fine. My interviewer was a really outgoing person, easy to talk to, and absolutely hilarious.

Do they contact everyone who applies?

Yes they contact everyone who applies to the Hotel School usually pretty quickly after you do it. You can do it online and it's not that bad all of the interviewers are really good

Do all applicants get an interview/meeting with local alumnus? I'm applying to Human Ecology

I believe that all applicatns have the opportunity to get an interview. I'm also pretty confident that they have off-campus events and times that you can meet with alumni. Though if you do have the time or the economic means you should consider visiting the school. For hotel it is a requirement to have an interview and is also much more important. You'd have to check with your particular college about that. Best way to do that is to call them up and simply ask them if its possible and how important it is. For some colleges its just an opportunity for you to ask them questions and it would be a waste of your time.

I applied to CAS and I got interviewed.

I applied to HE too, and nobody has contacted me yet. Should i contact the local alumni?

Bklyn2Cornell, how long ago did you apply & have you scheduled your hotel school interview yet?

lol, i applied on oct 21 to human ecology....i emailed the local alumni tonight and they said they'd check to see if my name is on their roster for interviews but that they would get me one...but as of now, after 11 days i havent gotten any independent interview request

I don't think an interview is required for human ecology

Btw, No interwiews are required not offered for engineering.

"Btw, No interwiews are required not offered for engineering."

You sure about that?

Here's the scoop.

Cornell tries to have alumni contact all Cornell applicants (except applicants to Hotel & Architecture because they have "required" interviews as a part of their admissions process)

Here's the website that desribes the Cornell Alumni Admssions Ambassadors Network (CAAAN), the group that does these contacts.

<a href="http://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/</a></p>

The meeting is optional, but the alums do file a report, so it is a chance to have one more piece of paper go into your file that will describe why you are an excellent candidate.

If you do not do an alumni contact, it will not hurt your chances.

""Btw, No interwiews are required not offered for engineering."

You sure about that?"

mostly - its there on the international supplement and the undergrad admissions FAQ

sorry but i think you're wrong. i remember they said they do alumni interviews for everyone optional(besides mandatory HA)

confidential, check out the following link for more info on whether interviews are required or not:

<a href="http://admissions.cornell.edu/resources/faq_answer.cfm?num=24%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.cornell.edu/resources/faq_answer.cfm?num=24</a></p>

As Wharf Rat said, theyre optional (but encouraged) for all applicants except for Hotel and AAP. For those two schools, interviews are required; for the rest, they are done by the local branch of the alumni association (if one exists near you).

metallicmanic: i consider the alumni "informal" discussion an interview but i kno some people don't because it's not "evaluative". so thats were i was coming from. the alumni who interviews you can and probably will report information back to cornell(if you look at the CAAAN website, it has a link for alumni to give feedback to cornell about the prospective student they interviewed).

alumni interviews are for the most part non-evaluative. It's a time for you to meet a former cornell student, and ask any questions you may have.

Your interviewer will send a letter back to Cornell about the interview, but this can only help you. Unless you are completely rude, I don't think the interviewer is going to say anything negative. But if you make a really good impression, and be yourself, then it can only help you.
