Alumni Interview

Hey, so I had my Penn alumni interview earlier this week and I don't know if it went well. I answered all of his questions and didn't say anything that could negatively affect my chances, but the interview was only 20 minutes! My other interviews were 40-60 minutes, so I felt bad that it was so short. My interviewer was also a little awkward and kept checking his phone to look for more questions to ask me.. he also couldn't hold a flowing conversation with me. Even though he didn't ask about my ECs, i threw a few in and usually interviewers ask more about the ECs in follow up questions when you mention them, but not this guy. Will this in any way hinder my chances? I didn't say anything bad about myself, penn, or anything else but the conversation was a little awkward and short.

No one has any input on this??

Interviews don’t really mean all that much. The only way they can hurt you is if you present yourself as some sort of freak/psychopath or state outright that you don’t really want to attend the University. Even if it goes amazingly, it rarely counts for anything. The interviews are really more of a way for the alumni to feel more involved (and thereby more inclined to donate) with their alma mater. The adcoms give barely any importance to interviews.

My Penn interview was much shorter than my other interviewers as well, but I still think it went well! I was worried at first because my previous interview had been 2 hours. Maybe your interviewer was new to interviewing; I don’t think it could have been very hurtful to your admissions process.

Yes he looked pretty young so I’m assuming this is his first time interviewing. Well I’m glad to know our interviews were both around the same length. Thanks @grayson & @kbolisetty

My sister interviews for Harvard and Princeton and she says she has interviewed many AMAZING candidates and she gives a full report and mentions they are amazing…if they are lackluster her report says that too.

Doesn’t matter. No one she interviewed has every gotten in!

Well that’s reassuring lol
