i applied for the alumni interview before the deadline (12/1) but havent received any notice yet.
my friend who goes to the same school as me got an interview a few weeks ago. he applied to writing and i applied to biology major. im wondering why i didnt get mine yet? can it be because we applied for different majors? my friend told me that biology/premed majors get different interviewers. hm... when should i start calling JHU if i dont get any notice?

Actually, what your friend told you is not true -- the matching of alumni interviewer to interviewee has nothing to do with majors. This year Hopkins received more interview requests than every before and has had a lot of trouble matching every request with an interviewer. Some of our alums have done 5 or 6 interviews, double what we request of them.

If you requested an interview before the deadline and have not heard anything, you need to email NASC@jhu.edu. You may call the Admissions Office too, but in this case email is probably a better bet.

Do remember, the interview plays no role in the Admissions process.

can the reason why my friend received one and i havent be that my stats are lower than his?

not at all.

the interview is meant to be informative, nothing more than that really. the alumni might report what you guys talked about, or report anything you won't put on your application but would like to share...

it's just like meeting an alumni rep. at a college-fair and talking to them there. here, you just get personalized attention...and maybe a free lunch ;) ...if your interviewer is nice! Many hopkins alums. are making lots of money.

how come my friend got an alumni interview and i didnt? we live in the same city. not having an interview because there are no alumnus living in my city does not make sense. is it because my stats are lower than his? does it mean that i am automatically rejected without even getting an interview?

OK, first of all did you read my first message to you? Do to the # of alumni interview requests this year, some students still have not been matched with an alum. Did you follow my advice and email the alumni account?

The matching of applicant with alumni interviewer has nothing to do with your application or your stats. It has to do with the date the request was received, the alumni in the area, and the # of interviews an alum can cover. Not once did I say there are no alums in your area - what I said was they might have already done more interviews than we ask them to do.

Once again I advise you to email NASC@jhu.edu, and I add one other piece of advice - have some patience.

don't stress out theonlyone.

just because your friend got an interview, doesn't mean he has a competitive edge over you at all in the application process.

Don't worry about not having an interview. I requested one also, a week or so later I recieved an email stating that no alum is available and that I would be contacted by the parents association to answer some of my questions. Maybe you recieved the same email but it was placed in your junkmail folder? or you could have missed it. Good luck.

nope, i never received those. i always check my email very carefully, even the junk email folder. @ admissiondaniel: i requested the interview earlier than my friend and i know there is a alumni interviewer in my area. i guess i ll just email them. i wont go crazy about it anymore

good idea. take some initiative!

You have to apply for alumini interviews??? No wonder I haven't been contacted. What do I do??? What do I do? It's a wonder that only 3 of 10 colleges contacted me, and they did this in a clump at the beginning/mid of Jan.

Admissiond, is it too late to request an interview?? Does JHU accept any update material? Who's my regional rep?(how do I find this out?) I live in Nor CA.

"the interview plays no role in the Admissions process"

Really?? So I'm not hopeless??

The deadline to request an interview was December 1st. We are no longer accepting request for interviews.

You may submit update materials, but please understand there is no guarantee that such materials will be processed in time to be reviewed with your application. You must send update materials by mail or fax, we will not process such information through email.

admissionsdaniel: i sent in some documents via email because my regional rep requested me to do so. He said if mailed, it might not make it in time. So he told me to email it to him. Is this okay? I really want those documents to be read

have faith in your regional rep. they know best.

iwanna - If your regional rep said email would work, then there is no problem with that. In general, we do not want to receive update materials through email.

alright thank you admissionsdaniel. Yeh my regional rep does sound like a cool guy ( along with Admissionsdaniel) :)
