I have my interview today and had a few questions. What should I wear? I was thinking some jeans or khakis and a button up... look good but not super formal? Also, what types of questions do they ask you? How much of a focus is placed on me asking the alumnus questions?

I would say it depends on the meeting place, but Khakis and a button up sounds about right.

It’s not (or shouldn’t be) like a job interview–it’s more like a conversation, with a lot of back and forth. They will of course ask about your background and what you did in highschool, why you picked Vandy, etc. but it’s very conversational and an opportunity to learn more about Vanderbilt.

One of the most important things is to come prepared with a few good questions-- questions really only Vandy student/alum could properly answer. The alumuns love their alma matter and love talking about it, so come up with some good questions to task. YOU are definitely the focus of the conversation, but asking questions shows you’re engaged and takes some of the pressure off you.

You might want to ask what they didn’t like about the University as well, but don’t make it seem like you’re putting Vanderbilt down. I asked in my interview and he talked about how it was an extremely social campus, and since he was more introverted he didn’t enjoy it as much as he could have.

Another good question is asking what they would have done differently if they could go back.
