Alumni Interview

Hey guys, I applied to Princeton and found out today by my guidance counselor that the Alumni interviewer will be coming to my high school tomorrow to give me an interview.

Has anyone had an interview done at their high school?

Should I dress normal or wear a suit?

I'm kind of freaking out (I've had 5 interviews so far, but none at my school. I'm being pulled out of class for it.)

Thanks!

Have you ever seen Risky Business? Yeah, don’t do that, even though it worked for Tom Cruise. And don’t wear a suit. Since you didn’t say how you normally dress, I suggest smart casual. That should be appropriate for an interview at your high school.

Don’t wear a suit. I don’t know if you have a school uniform or something, but if not wear business casual clothes.

Sounds exactly like one of my interviews. I found out the night before it was happening at school the next day. I wore a dress with a scarf and some tights (my interview happened in December, and it gets cold here). You could do something similar. If you’re a guy, just wear some neat pants (dark jeans are okay too) and a button down/polo shirt. Remember, the interviewer will be aware that you have to go back to class. Good luck!

We interview at school sometimes. Guys in khakis and a polo or button down, girls in a dress (modest). Make sure you have what you need with you throughout the day so that you don’t have to run back to your locker to get anything and end up keeping them waiting. Also DO NOT let your friends walk with you to the interview. Even good friends can sometimes act like idiots at the wrong moment. Plus, you are not 5 and don’t need a ‘buddy’ to walk with. Finally, decide now if you want to discuss it with others. I personally don’t say much until after the interview, if at all. No need for everyone to know what you are doing, who is coming, etc. But that is just me! Some kids like it because it is on their turf. I prefer away from school but if there, then I try and make sure it is set up in a private conference room or my counselors office. The lounge rooms are bad because they are off a busy hall with lots of windows! My friend at boarding school does all interviews at school.

Thank you everyone! The interview went perfect!
