Alumni Interview

I have my alumni interview on Tuesday. I’m nervous because I have very low test scores for Tulane (1230 superscored), so I was super excited to hear that I could get an interview because I tend to be a really outgoing, bubbly person. My initial alumni interviewer never emailed me back, so I waited the 3 weeks that it said to on the website, then emailed Tulane, and was put in touch with a new interviewer who I’ll have an interview with over the phone on Tuesday. I’m nervous because I feel like my interview will help my ED application (not saying it’ll bring me from a rejected student to an accepted one), but it’s so close to the release date that they have, realistically, already determined whether I’m accepted, rejected or deferred.

Also, how long are they/what questions do they tend to ask? I just want to make sure I think about it a little beforehand so that I’m not scrambling to find words.

Relax and be yourself. Follow the advice on the Tulane blog about five tips on knocking your interview out of the park. I have done alumni interviewing at another school and there is good advice in that blog. I would add that you should be prepared to discuss things relating to your favorite academic experiences, how you deal with tough situations, things you do to help others, how you balance your schedule, and even what you do when you have free time. This is a chance for you to tell Tulane more about you. Also, if you need to pause before gathering your thoughts, that’s okay too.

Hi! I already had my interview and it went really well. I think that as long as you are comfortable and be yourself it will go great. My interview was 20-30 mins and it was a very casual conversation. I’ve interviewed for other colleges and this one was least formal which I liked. She asked a few questions about me and my interests and then allowed me to ask her questions about the school. I think it is a good thing that you got selected because on the online chat session they said they select students based on academic achievement and alumni availability. You will do great!
