Alumni Interview....

So I signed up for one several weeks ago. After waiting the 2 weeks before I'm supposed to contact the email address given, I did. Still, no one has contacted me.

I'm wondering if I should just keep sending annoying emails or wait patiently. Is there even any chance at all for an interview anyway?

I have the same problem.

As do I, Im only in baltimore until the 8th then back to nowhereland maine. I think I'll be giving them a call tuesday.

Though it's comforting to know I'm not the only one in this situation, this whole thing basically sucks. pout

I think I'm going to call them as well. Let me know how your phone call went.

When I requested an alumni interview, I didn't get one. Apparently JHU doesn't have any suitable interviewer in my area, and the admissions office told me not to worry too much, as they'd attach a note to my application indicating my original intention. Interview or not, I still managed to get in, so I suppose it's not all that important after all.

Hmm.. Where did you live?

I don't expect there to be many alumnis here, but I did get interviews for UChicago, Rice, and Columbia, so I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

I get the feeling JHU isn't very serious about the interviews; my D didn't hear a word either. And when I called the admissions office about the optional essays on the supplement, they laughed it off, basically saying she shouldn't waste her time. I felt badly for her friend, who was slaving away on those optional essays. It left me with a poor taste in my mouth for JHU. I don't think they have a very professional approach here.

Laughed off the Common App Supplement essays? From what I've heard, those essays are "highly recommended".. wierd

According to AdmissionsDaniel, we should write them.

Well, in a few hours, hopefully we'll get some answers.

As far as I know:

Those "optional essays" are highly recommended, esp. the "money in your pocket" essay. This is a unique, and yes very difficult topic (?) I believe that only JHU uses. They are looking for certain personal qualities for "fit", and I guess this essay reveals that well?

Interviews: I know from my application process that schools like Rice and Columbia highly recommend interviews. However, JHU doesn't really consider them an important part of the application process, and as they state, the interview is for informative purposes only. In other words, it's not important enough to make a big impact on your decision.

I called -- the counselor for alumni relations won't come back till tomorrow. I left her a message.

OK, let's respond to some of the posts here:

About requesting Alumni Interviews...
...as you can imagine we receive a lot of requests and during the holiday season it is difficult to respond back automatically. Please give the alumni interview staff some time to sort through all the requests. Typically the turn around time is about two weeks, but during the holidays it may take a bit longer. If you have been waiting more than three weeks then send an email to NASC@jhu.edu and someone will respond. Due note that alumni interviews will be scheduled throughout January and February for those who requested an interview and have completed an application.

The role of the interview...
...for Hopkins the interview matters very little in the review process. As we state on the web site, interviews are much more informative than evaluative. They are conversations about Hopkins, and pretty much play little to no role in the review process. You ARE NOT at a disadvantage if you do not interview, and you ARE NOT at an advantage if you do interview. They are option to get more information. And unlike many schools we do not recommend nor do we strongly recommend interviews -- they are just an option.

As for the optional essays...
...not sure how many times I can say this -- but we strongly recommend them!!! And that is coming from someone who actually evaluates applications --> I think that is a credible source.

In addition to Adm.Danniel's comment, I called the office again today and was told that we have until Feb to complete the interview.

So. Guess it's back to waiting?

Strange thing is, I'm pretty sure I registered for an interview in November.
