I looked up the alumni interviewer in "my area" and apparently she lives a good 3+ hours away from me. If I am contacted and asked for an interview but I'm unable to travel that far, will this be held against me? I want an interview but I work almost constantly and have tons of ECs and things going on. I can't imagine finding 8ish hours in a day round trip to do an alumni interview in the next month or so. However, I've heard that when kids turn down an interview it's almost an auto-rejection.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

*Obviously, if the interview is extremely important, I'll find a way to do it. My boss won't be happy with me.... : ) But I will find a way. I also don't have a car--I share with my parents and I am dropped off at school each day so they can get to work... so I have no idea how I would even make the trip at this point.

I looked up the regional chairperson in my state… are there alumni interviewers other than the chairpersons? Perhaps I won’t need to travel as far.

Is the regional chairperson the only alumni interviewer in a state? Some states have several “regional chairpersons”. I’m curious because maybe there are other interviewers who live closer to me who I will get an interview with.

That’s definitely not the case, considering that there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of candidates in given state/region. I was looking at regional directors for my state and I know that when I was interview that was not my interviewer (of course, that happened a couple years ago so things could have changed).
Though, I guess if you live in a region that includes northwest Minnesota or something there is a chance the director will interview you…

I still haven’t been contacted for an interview, and i submitted my application the 16th of october. mabye it’s because i live in panama? although we do have a regional alumni here. sigh…
