Alumni Interview

I applied for an alumni interview at Pomona Regular Decision (the deadline to apply for an interview is December 1). I haven't finished my essays, yet, so I haven't submitted my application yet. If my interview happens to be before I've submitted my application, does that look bad?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can’t imagine what one has to do with the other. And who is their right mind submits an RD application in September? No one expects that. In fact, if anything, submitting an RD application in September would make you look obsessive. Relax. I don’t even think they’ll set up an interview for a regular decision candidate until the RD applications are in, so I don’t see your interviewing before you submit your application as a likely event.

Glad you requested an alum interview this early since it can be difficult lining one up later in the season. And don’t worry about not having applied yet. The interview provides a more personal perspective of your as an applicant, and the fact that you’re requested one indicates your serious intent. D interviewed before she applied, and she applied ED, so no worries!

Good luck!

My daughter will have all six interviews done before she submits anything. She has completed two and scheduled three for the next two weeks. She will probably schedule the sixth this week. It is normal.

Actually, if things haven’t changed from last year, on campus interviewing concludes by the end of December, and I think the deadline is the same for alumni interviews outside of Southern California. And since the RD deadline is January 2, most applicants will interview before their applications are submitted, which is a little different from some other selective colleges. If you’re serious about applying, submit your interview request now (the deadline is December 1)! Many metropolitan areas fill up quickly, and not having an interview is one less chance for you to present yourself to Pomona, although it won’t technically be to your detriment.

On the Pomona website I believe it claims that they recommend interviewing before you submit your application, but that could just be for on-campus interviews

I applied and was granted before I will submit my application. so it is fine~
