I'm applying ED 1 and last week I got an e-mail about doing an optional alumni interview. I'm debating whether or not to do one, I have to request it by November 2nd if I want to. I really want to go to Vanderbilt so if it would look bad if I didn't do an interview, I would do one in a second. But I'm a very shy person and I tend to get nervous in interviews so I'm afraid it might not go so well. From what I've seen, most people are saying to do the interviews to show interest, but isn't applying early decision pretty much showing as much interest as possible? Could it reflect poorly on my application if I didn't do an interview?

do it man. you're lucky that you even got an interview. I'd kill for one. take advantage of the situation, prep in your head the questions they might ask you, and go for it.

wait doesn't everyone get the notice about interviews a few days after they submit their application?

I would absolutely encourage you to do the interview. Prepare for it and have a list of questions for your interviewer so that he/she will talk as much as you do. You might be interested in knowing what the interviewer's favorite class at Vandy was and why, where they liked to eat, what community service activities they might have done at Vandy (Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is big there), etc. Most college interviewers are proud of their alma mater and want you to think favorably of the school and should be willing to carry the load of the conversation to put you at ease.

really ds7291? I mean, I wouldn't know....i just remember reading that interviews were only for alumni relatives

I'm applying RD but I got the email not long after submitting my app. I'm scheduling my interview for next week. Get it done ASAP... cuz I've got about eight more to go. haha.
