Alumni Interviews for ED

Does anybody know if ED applicants are offered a chance to interview with a Cornell Alumni? If yes, do you know when they will contact us?

yes, at least 2 yrs ago when my sib applied ED

Yes, ED applicants have the opportunity to meet with an alum, provided one is available in your area. I know that in my area, the coordinator has already started assigning applicants for us alums to contact.

I have mine tonight at 5:30, haha.

I’ve submitted my application near the due date. Do they have to process everything first before they begin assigning students the chance to meet an alumni?

Did you receive an email for the alumni contact or how?

Thanks guys.

Once Cornell receives your application, the admissions office will forward your name to the CAAAN chair of your area. If there are available alumni in your area, then one will be assigned to contact you (via e-mail or phone) to see if you’re interested in a meeting.

I haven’t heard from any alumni yet about an interview. I live in a pretty populated area, though, so I have to assume there’s at least one near me.

Like I’ve mentioned before, not every applicant will receive an alumni contact. There have been cases where an applicant received an alumni contact while an applicant from the same high school did not.

It can also take time for a contact to be arranged. Right now, our priority is making contact with E.D. applicants as our reports for those applicants is due (obviously) much sooner than a report for an R.D. applicant.

Be patient with this and good luck!

Thanks for the info. I’m concerned with it, but not particularly worried, since it is completely out of my hands. I certainly do hope I get an interview - although when I did visit CHE, they basically gave me an interview there.

Thank you dewdrop87 for the information. I have a quick followup question. Is there any advantage during admissions if you are offered an interview and choose take take it? Assuming a student did well/fine, will this have ANY impact at all during admissions?

Thank you.

The meeting is an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the admissions process or Cornell in general. The meeting doesn’t have too much of an impact on your application. However, if you realize that you forgot to include something important in your application or you receive an award/have a significant update to add and you have an alumni meeting, that would be an ideal time to inform the alum and he/she can make note of it in the report.

Conversely, if you take the meeting and you’re a horrible person/rude/etc…that could be a potential ding in your app.

If you have other questions you should PM me. I’m busy with med school classes and this is the first time I’ve been on CC in a few weeks. If you PM me, I’ll know right away and can respond faster.
