<p>I wonder why not? Given the College’s desire for a holistic assessment of candidates and a strong alumni/ae network, one would think that such a piece of data could help to round out an applicant’s file. Most colleges and universities (some with 10x plus the number of applicants) not only interview but weigh the interview report as an important part of the folder. Does anyone know if Williams ever did interview and when/why it stopped?</p>
<p>While Williams alums come from every part of the world, it can be difficult finding alumni interviews in other countries - especially large ones. The admissions committee doesn’t want to put people who aren’t from the US at a disadvantage in the admissions process. Because of that disadvantage, some students who would have been admitted might not be. I think that the conversation went something like this: candidates should be able to effectively communicate their enthusiasm for learning and the College in writing, so interviews wouldn’t significantly alter the perceptions of a large number of candidates. It does, however, constitute a barrier to admission for those who do not have alumni in their area who are able/willing to interview prospective students.</p>
<p>Just wanted to weigh in that I actually had an interview with an admissions officer in the fall (but no alumni interview). Probably this is just an exception for my school, where interviews tend to be prioritized in the college admissions process.</p>
