I am applying regular decision to midd and i was wondering if any other regulars or EDIIs have been contacted yet to have an interview. the website says the interviews for reg and EDII is between January and mid Feb, so im not really worried - but post if you've been contacted so i know about when to expect a call/email so i can contact midd if i don't hear from them - i just want to make extra sure everything goes right because middlebury is my #1!! thanks

Hi, I perform Alumni Interviews and just received my assignment yesterday. It's entirely possible that the interviewer assigned to you just hasn't had a chance to contact you yet or that he/she hasn't even gotten the assignment yet. Don't worry, someone will get to you. It's a lot of fun, so don't worry, relax, be yourself, and enjoy learning more about your "#1" school.

The interviewers are given your phone number and your email assuming that you provided that information. It is then up to the interviewer to decide how to contact you. I've emailed applicants and I've phoned them. It just depends.

Great - thank you! I'm not worried, interviews are my favorite part of the admission process. I don't know if you can tell, but from your experience as an interviewer, do the people you recommend highly tend to get admitted, or is it difficult to find a correlation?

So far it's been 100% - the people I have highly recommended got in. The people I was a little "iffy" about were waitlisted, and the people I couldn't recommend did not get in. Of course, that may have had nothing to do with my recommendations and everything to do with the fact that I recommended more highly those more qualified applicants.

thanks for all of the information urbanslaughter! having a midd alum to answer all these questions really helps.

and i just got my email from my alumni interviewer! yay!

hey dessin, i applied RD to midd and i got my interview a couple of days ago! My interviewer was sooooo nice and so reassuring. he was so nic, like i think you will be a great student and middlebury is loking for people like you. by far the best interview i have had!

I'm so mad...Middlebury's website said that the interviews did not affect the admission decision, so I decided not to do one...now I'm kind of regretting it. The person assigned to me contacted me, but now I guess it's too late :( I really like doing interviews, too. I feel like I come across better in person than on paper...plus, Middlebury's a reach for me. For some reason, they've only ever accepted one person from my school, probably because we're white and from Westchester, lol. This is the one time I wish I lived in Kansas or something ;)
Seriously, though, do you think it will hurt me that I didn't decide to interview? Now I'm nervous.

Well, it certainly won't help. Alumni interviewers fill out a report and send it to the admissions office, where it's read when the committee evaluates your application. Your interviewer will fill out the form and check a box that indicates that the invitation for an interview was denied. That doesn't exactly demonstrate interest in Middlebury!

Crap. Well, had I seen that before my interviewer just called me ten minutes ago, I would have said yes :( She called me after I didn't respond to her email, and I wasn't sure whether or not to accept the offer. I told her I visited campus before, so she said there wasn't a real need, since the interviews are especially for people who don't know about Middlebury cause they haven't visited. I told her maybe it would be a good idea if I did do an interview, but she was giving me mixed vibes and I didn't know if she would think I were stupid for making an appointment since I already visited. Guess not. Then she asked me if I had any questions, and, not wanting to be awkward over the phone, I said no. And then we kind of awkwardly said goodbye. I should have just said yes. I want to cry! I feel so stupid. But at least I visited campus and did a tour/info session...right?

At what point do you contact the school to see if there was a delay or that the alumni interview was not available?

The alumni interviews are just now being assigned. If you haven't heard in a week, I'd call the admissions office to find out if you've been assigned an interviewer yet.

Yes, the admissions committee will look favorably upon your visit. That certainly demonstrates interest.

Do they do interviews for internationals?
Probably not, right?

Depends on where you live. If you live within one hour of an alumni interviewer, then you'll probably be contacted.

saaaamiie, i'm international and i got an interview

Oh, really?
I so hope hope hope i get one.

I'm also an international and I'm having my interview next Wednesday. Quite nervous...

Good luck!!

saaammie, why dont you call Midd and ask? My interview was a phone interview because my interviewer was in a diff city in my country. I was so surprised that I got an interview so quick because I am an RD applicant but it was great. Flid, don't worry, my interviewer was so charming! He basically asked me where Midd was on my list and my primary reasons for applying to Midd, whether it was just because Midd is a top 10 school or because of something deeper? They ask very introspective questions and are very, very cool. :P
