...I know they are not suppossed to be "interviews" but rather informational in nature. Are they done for ED canidates & if so how soon should students be expected to be contacted after they apply?

it just depends on the “volunteer” making the effort to contact the student - the write up is due by Nov 30

What memphismom said :-)

Actually, it’s not only the volunteer making the effort. It depends on how fast the information gets into the system for volunteers to be assigned, and if there are enough volunteers to be able to get to you on short notice. Because of the quick turnaround (it winds up being about a two-week window, which includes Thanksgiving), it’s difficult for many EDs to be contacted.

Great post ^

The same also goes for the ED applicant. If you are contacted by a Cornell alum, respond quickly. I contacted an ED applicant last year and clearly indicated the November 30th deadline in my e-mail. She waited until November 29th to respond and there was no way for me to schedule a meeting in time.

Dew – You still could have scheduled a meeting after November 30th out of the goodness of your own heart :)

hahaha…I’m not a good person ;)

yes you are…

Please respond if an alum contacts you! I’ve offered to travel an hour and half (each way)out of town to meet kids and most haven’t answered me!!!

My D was contacted by an alum a few days ago via email. We live in NH. She replied back to him and now is waiting for a response. She is interested in meeting with him even though she realizes that it isn’t considered a ‘formal’ interview like at some of the Ivys.

I applied RD and I had an interview in November. I live in NYC and I sent my application in early; early September. He even thought I applied ED because it was so early. I guess the earlier you apply the greater your chance for an interview. Even though they say its not an interview, it is. Its more like a conversation then an interview but he or she will ask you questions like, what do you want the admissions office to know about you? He will also ask you if theres anything that changed between when you sent your application and the interview.
