Alumni Reception....?

I just received an email from my local Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network. They have "cordially invited" me to a reception to meet local alumni and other prospective students and their parents from the area. It is two hours long on a weeknight. They also said, "we hope you will be able to attend this informal reception and panel discussion to learn more about Cornell."

I have a couple questions. Has anyone attented one of these in the past or just recently? I also have not received a formal interview request. So I was wondering is this where they conduct the interviews or will there be some other time for a one on one interview...?
Also, is it recommended that we do attend this sessions? If anyone could just enlighten me on this whole reception that would be great. Thanks.

I received the same e-mail as well, although I have already had my alumni interview a few weeks ago. I'm curious about the reception too, and would like to know what sort of information is likely to be gleaned from this session. And what more is there to learn about Cornell? After reading through the information in its viewbook and website, as well as learning additional facts about the university from the interviewer, I thought I had a pretty good comprehension of what there is to know about Cornell.

I got the invitation too. I had my interview two weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure that they won't be doing interviews there. I have a lot of the same questions as both of you. Also, do you guys think it's really going to differ very much from the information session that they have for prospective applicants? For some reason, I have a hunch that the reception is more to get us excited about Cornell and possibly increase their yield rate. Or is there any possibility that they would track interest and use it as a positive factor for admissions?

my friend received an "invitation to tea" (lol i know) from mount holyoke, and basically the alumni are just there so you can ask them questions about anything you want. the info session is just an admissions officer talking to a huge group, this is more one on one, at least for the tea party at mt holyoke, there was a table with six people 2 alumni and 4 applicants. i don't think it will factor into admissions at all.

bump.........

That is so ill that there was a tea party. Wonder if it was like this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=rjNym0nmqOc
