Alumni Relationship Importance?

Just how valuable is it to be related to a PSU grad? For instance, both of my parents are grads. Does that help me a little bit or a lot when they look at my application?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it helps a little bit, but it's not as important as GPA and SAT.

Good for the in-state applican.

Good for the OOS applicant too. PSU admissions looks at in state and out of state equally, but as z5 stated GPA and SAT are more important admissions factors.

Looking at PSU's "Common Data Set" as previous posters have mentioned, GPA and SATs are the most important, then the rigor of your high school class work. Everything else, including being related to an alum is just 'consisdered.' And actually, whether you are OOS or IS, it is not even considered in the admissions process, according to the common data set which can be found here: http://www.budget.psu.edu/CDS/FreshmanAdm.asp?Location=UP&AY=20052006

Good info, G Dad.

Great find, G Dad. Thanks alot.

it doesnt do much, gpa is single biggest factor

I went there and talked to an admissions counselor, and from what I was told, all they really look at are GPA and SAT scores. They simply have too many applicants to fine comb every application.
