alumni scholarship doubt

Hi Parents,
Can you please give your input.

if a college alumni scholarship application asks for a transcript:
Transcript usually has student id and date of birth. Do you mask that information before sending to alumni so they don’t have to see the student id and date of birth? or do you send transcript as it is?
I ask this question because the alumni email came from a gmail and application has to be sent to that gmail. It is not on university portal.
I called the university about this and they said it is up to the student how they want to send it.
I also asked why the alumni scholarship application is from gmail and not from university portal which they could not answer.

If you aren’t comfortable, block out the information.

If you suspect that this is a scam, then don’t send anything at all. But if it seems legit, I think you must send all info. How would they confirm enrollment without student ID? Birthday is useful since kids use nicknames, etc that might otherwise not match up. It’s not like giving your online banking password! DOB is pretty public anyway.

Why don’t you contact the alumni scholarship folks and ask them…not the university. Perhaps they set up a new gmail account annually to handle these. Contact and ask.

But agree…how name and birthday…and ID would be needed to verify enrollment. Now…if they are asking for social security number or driver’s license number…I would pass.

Contact the school and ask them about the email that you received. Two of mine had alumni scholarships and everything was handled by the universities. I didn’t even know about the scholarships until they showed up on their financial award package each year. IMO it is more logical for the school to refer students who may qualify for the scholarship to the alumni scholarship committee than for the committee to basically go fishing for qualified students.
