Alumni Scholarship

Has anyone heard back from the alumni scholarship??? Has anyone heard about the semifinalists??? Like interview date and etc??

I think you first here about the admission decision.

ya i got the alum schol invite...i think its local first and then the winners there go to ucla tio compete for the 15k scholarship

i think that's for ucla's alum scholarship, hun

op's talking about berkeley's
lol

Each region does it's own interviews, the only requirement is that they give their list to the Alumni office by late April (mid 20s) so they could be doing interviews already or much later, depending on that region's personal schedule.

Anyone get Alum. Leadership scholarship interview?
If yes, which region are you?

yea someone please inform!!!! also, is it typical for people to get both regents and alumni? like if i have regents i am still eligible for alumni right? they wont be all like this dude already has one so he cant have another? cuz that would suck

It is possible for people to get both Regents and Alumni, but it's a bit rare, I have a couple of friends that have both. Most students end up not getting one and winning the other.

So, uh, when do we hear back from the Alumni Scholarship committees?

I'd be really really happy if I got it (but I seriously doubt it!) :)

The Alumni group has a preliminary reading done in various locations NY/LA/OC/Bay Area/etc including alumni office staff and alumni from all over. From that group a cut off is established for semi-finalists- this group is not notified, but is forwarded to each region.

There are interview guidelines to maintain some continuity between regions, but the final selections are left to each region. The region provides a list of scholars and alternates, if some one is awarded the scholarship and chooses not to attend Cal, that money goes to the alternate

The regions have different numbers of scholarships to award based on their funding and the number or people in that area (LA has more scholars than a small rural area)

There are more than 6000 applicants this year and my resource thinks there are about 750 total, 250 freshman, but will check on that.

thanks, somemom for the info.

If any freshman from Bayarea gets a call for interview, please let us know...

Regents and alumni are totally separate. If you know you have the regents when you have the alumni interview and you tell them, it is possible that alumni group could decide you have more than you need, but the regents is not nesc lots of money, so I don't know why they would not offer it if they felt you deserved it.

I got contacted about the interview (via email).

I live in the Berkeley/San Pablo/Richmond/Albany area (district 54, apparently), and am going to interview this weekend.

Congratulations JP!

Advice from the inside:

Be yourself. Be interesting (assuming that is not an oxymoron :D)
Be unique
Be memorable
Talk about things you want to do or get involved in at Cal

Don't worry about being the perfect 4.0/2400- show your personality and show how your being on campus will bring something interesting to Berkeley

i really hope i get an interview!!!

I just got the call, in Auburn.

i got an email thisafternoon, LA area! any advice. oh, and how difficult is it to be selected?

I'm also wondering how difficult it is to win the scholarship from here (like what percent of ppl who interview actually get something)

I got my call/email Sunday night. I'm in the North Bay area, and already have Regents.

Does the Alumni Association have any way of finding out if you've gotten Regents? (I really hope not...)

On another note, I've noticed how much faster UCLA is when it comes to contacting you (Regents, Alumni scholarship, etc.). Berkeley's a bit slower on the draw...oh well!
