Okay, so weird quick question. How do the UC’s determine alumni scholarships? Because I recently got into berkeley and have gotten like 5 requests for their alumni scholarships and nothing from ucla
Don’t even try to understand the way UC admission works. No one can.
Sometimes you are very attractive to UCB but not that interesting to a UCLA adcom. They may not value your essay the same way for example.
I have a 3.0 and a 1710 SAT and I got an alumni scholarship invite. I think it is random? Although I am a theater major if that changes anything?
@hopefullgal did you get the TFT interview invite?
I signed up for an audition/interview early January. January 12 I got the alumni email, along with February 4th and 12th. My audition was January 16th. Is the TFT interview invite different from the regular tft audition/interviews?
@hopefullgal I have no idea about the TFT program (I applied for life sciences). I just read that someone who applied for television got an interview request, which was apparently sent out to only 30 applicants, but thats probably not the case for theater. I got my alumni email on Jan 29th, which ive heard is significant, but im not sure if thats true. Did we get it on different dates because we applied to different schools?
My major would be acting so I have already finished my interviews. That is strange we got the emails on different dates because that proves it is not a random machine giving the email to everyone. The first time I received the email it was very unofficial and had no UCLA logo on it and that was January 12 and the one I got on February 4th was more official looking. It would makes sense that every program within UCLA sends its invites at a different date. Maybe you are in the top 30% for life sciences and I am top 30% for theater. But again my scores are very below average so I do not see why I was invited along scholars
@hopefullgal perhaps the second one was sent based on your talent during your audition. I only got 1 letter which said the following…
APPLY FOR A UCLA ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Dear_______,
Since 1936, a select group of distinguished Bruins have had the honor of being known as Alumni Scholars. We invite you to apply for one of UCLA’s most prestigious scholarships, offered by the Alumni Scholarships Program. Out-of-State Scholarships provide an outstanding opportunity for highly accomplished students from outside of California to help fund their UCLA education.
This is a wonderful opportunity to possibly receive a merit-based scholarship ranging from $4,000 to $20,000, and to be a member of the esteemed Alumni Scholars Club. Being an Alumni Scholar is more than just receiving a scholarship. Scholars are involved in campus events and organizations, increase their connections to the university, build their leadership skills, and stay involved as alumni.
Please visit https://alumni.ucla.edu/scholarships/prospective-students/ for full details.
Deadline to apply: Friday, Feb. 26, 11:59pm
We look forward to receiving your application.
Go Bruins!
Alumni Scholarships
I also got a reminder, which im sure eveyone who got the first email gets.
Honestly, i have no idea how UCLA does undergrad admissions because i doubt a 3.8UW/4.33W/33 ACT is considered “being at the top” for a competitive major like life sciences.Maybe EC’s/essays are also taken into account.
But from what ive read on past threads ( http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/1458538-ucla-alumni-scholarship-invitation-p1.html ) , i think it is sent to the top 5% of applicants and those applicants usually have a 70% acceptance rate.
Good Luck!
My email was the exact same and I got a reminder Feb.19! I hope it was for my talents because my major has a 3% acceptance and I had no hopes for it being for my grades. Your stats sound more like a top student compared to me so I believe this was sent to top students. Maybe my initial email on january 12 was a mistake some how. Anyways Good luck to you too! Hopefully this was a sign of acceptance for both of us.
@hopefullgal Hopefully!
