Alumni support

How is the alumni support at UCLA, and how is it compared to UCSD?

If you want to stay in LA after graduation its one of the best networks out there, probably even rivaling USC. Bruin alumni in LA tend to be very wealthy and involved. Also there is a student alumni association on campus that puts on several events a year where you meet/network with alumni in various ways. But the network isn't so good once you leave LA. Overall it is better than UCSD for sure. Bruins have a lot of pride b/c of sports and prestige.

UCSD, even thou it's name implies "San Diego" it really should be called UCLJ(La Jolla) where it's located in. The school does not have no where near the available alumni that UCLA has. Some parts of San Diego, give SDSU and USD equal weight as UCSD, what does that tell you.

I spent 18 years of my life in San Diego, so I am not pulling this out of the hat. It seems to carry more of a name past Sea World, in relation to San Diego

There is an alumni network contact list at the Career Center. The alumni on the list actually signed up to be on that list, so they welcome and expect current students to ask them for advice in their particular field.

For example, if I'm interested in a consulting job, I can check the list and look for any alumni who are currently working in consulting firms, and I can send them an email (or call) introducing myself as a current UCLA student and ask questions about their career or request an informational interview with them. I think it's a pretty cool thing.
