Hey, so before I graduated, I went through that process to be able send out from my Calmail "@berkeley.edu" email through gmail. I subsequently converted my calmail into a forwarding address.

I have recently noticed that I can SEND out mail from my @berkeley.edu address via gmail still. The recipent still sees "...@berkeley.edu". Anyone else notice this?

It’s in the Gmail settings somewhere. The “From” address in emails is completely within control of the sender. It’s like how you can write any return address on an envelope or on your letter.

Yes, this feature can be abused. I’ve played a few pranks and creeped out a few non-technical friends by doing this.

its quite easy…just go to gmail settings and add the berkeley.edu email as a forwarding address…the only thing i dislike about this is that i have my calmail inbox arranged into folders, but these same folders dont transfer over with the forwarding :/

anyone know when we’ll finally be able to start using calnet on mobile devices? its driving me insane not being able to access my email on campus. ugh

In gmail,
Settings->Accounts and Imports->Send Mail As
then just add your calmail.

Honestly, it’s not that difficult to figure out, just google it and you can find how to do it easily. If you’ve set up your gmail to check your calmail, the “Send Mail As” option is just above it, so it’s kind of hard to miss.
