It's ALWAYS 3 (maybe sometimes 4 or 2) And I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong here. 3 wrong in each section means a topped out score at around 680. Any suggestions? I'm trying to get that 8/9/10 down to 3 wrong max.

Well it depends on what you’re getting wrong, there’s short passages, long passages, vocabulary. Explain more

I face the same problem. Some invisible obstacles are preventing me from getting all answers correct in a section.
I usually have to comfort myself by thinking that each section is swarming with level 4,5 questions, and that I did my best…
Now I’m going for writing, but soon I’ll scrutinize the goddamn reading again. Comprehensively.

It’s scattered - The most I ever get wrong in one vocab section is 2, and I’ll either get 1 or 2 wrong in long passages and short passage questions.

Like ursawarrior said, there seems to be invisible obstacles blocking me. I’m often times unsure of how or why I chose the wrong answer, and while I’m full aware of why the right answer is right and how to find it, I have a penchant for… I don’t even know what.

For example, in a section I took today:

I got 2 vocab questions wrong - nothing I can do about that

One CR question wrong in a medium-sized passage, and it was because I didn’t understand what the context in question was talking about.

and one other CR question for the same passage, that involved some vocabulary I didn’t know.

I don’t get it - if the SAT always includes new words, how is one supposed to study for the questions that involve advanced vocabulary of some sort?

haha same. It’s really annoying and the only thing keeping me from a 2200+. If I can just get a low 700 on CR I’d be happy.

It’s almost like a mental block - I used to be able to get 1 or sometimes 0 wrong, but now it’s always 4, 3, or 2.

Just took another round of 3 sections and got a 680. 8 wrong, 1 omitted, 58 right.

Oh god, I have this problem too. This is one of the reasons why my score is so inconsistent.
The test scores that I have gotten recently for practice ranges from 2100-2300, and mostly attributed towards CR. Sometimes I get 780 on my CR, only getting 3 or 4 wrong in the entire test, to ~700, where I get at least 2 or 3 wrong. There was even this one time when I got a 650. I just feel that each CR section is different, and not as orderly and predictable as the other sections.
Starting off, the vocabulary is definitely different, and SAT tries to come up with some new words for the level 5 question vocabs, and I sometimes get 1 or 2 wrong in total because of that.
Then, regarding the long passages(most difficult in my opinion), the content could be stereotypical (banal topics such as slavery/racism/segregation/etc) and easy to understand. However, there are also possibilities for somewhat convoluted topics which makes the “what is the tone”, “The author’s writing is best characterized as” and “Which generalization” questions considerably harder.

If someone can give feedback on how to get rid of these two annoying problems, I’d greatly appreciate it. (I created a collegeconfidential account just for this haha)

This is exactly my problem.

I guess you just to have to introduce yourself to a wide variety of writing. The more writing you can analyze, the better chance you have at understanding and being able to answer the questions more thoroughly and confidently.

Challenge yourself and read something that really makes have to think hard to understand the passages.

How do you analyze a writing, Dreamday? I have tried reading novels but passive reading doesn’t seem to work (or I may not have read properly). When you come across a passage, how do you challenge yourself so that you can get critical reading experience?
