hey i heard about this site in the past and i think i'll start using it as the admissions process rolls around the corner.

i attend a pretty competitive high school on the east coast

GPA 98/100 and 8.2/8.0, 4.1/4.0

I've taken 5 APs before senior year, and i'm taking 5 APs now...my list, in order of when i took them, is...

AP world history
AP euro history
AP US history
AP physics B
AP language and composition
AP calculus BC
AP physics C
AP Macro economics
AP us gov't
AP english literature

my SATs are kind of low, i have a 640 verbal, 800 math, 640 writing (i took it once in may, and i'm retaking in october for first time)

extra curriculas..(music is consolidated...a lot)

7 time all county jazz bass / 2 time all state jazz bass

president of a school debate team, won awards@yale/upenn for their hosted competitions

your SATs are a bit low, but if you apply and convey your interest in the school as part of your essay (without sucking up) then you have a shot. Your GPA is pretty high, so that'll be a plus.

Are your scores below the dartmouth median? yes. Does that mean you have no shot? no. so, retake the SAT in october, you'll most likely do better, and don't forget you need to take SATIIs. Good luck.

my math/verbal is a 1440 which fits right in the dartmouth SAT range. but the fact that my verbal is so low and my math is perfect may be a bad thing

To make you feel better, I wasn't much different from you and I 'm heading to Hanover this fall... I had 9 APs (got all 4s and 5s), and 800 Math 680 Verbal (640 verbal the first time I took it).... I also did well on Math Level II (800), and SATIIs and on the APs I had taken before I had applied. I think schools look at this much harder then students realize (the SATs are considered a "starter" test, which gives an overall indication- the SATIIs a better indicator), so if you some of these APs were last year and you did well, make sure you submit your scores. They do like to talk about how many students have a 800 on 1/2 of the test. Your grades look competitive.

Also I think having a combination of different interests (I played V Football at a good school- I wasn't a recruit, and was top on the Math team) and the debate/musical thing is kind of different, and judging on my school's admissions- which went really well, I saw this helped quite a few kids. A friend of mine was our top debater, but also had a lot of depth in Biology- and will be at MIT this fall. I had done really well on some state and national math competitions, and the fact that you did well at the debate events, adds objectivity to your application.
