I was recently laid off from a job whose high salary I listed on my most recent income taxes. Last week I started working a part-time, low-paying job to make ends meet while I look for a new full-time job. Do I qualify as a dislocated worker? I was terminated, just not from my most recent job–the part-time position.
Yes, you do qualify as a dislocated worker. Just checking the dislocated worker box doesn’t help most people - it just allows assets to be ignored in some instances. You may want to talk to the school about a professional judgment to adjust your income - although many schools will make you wait a certain amount of time after you lose your job before they will adjust, since you may well find a job that pays well in the near future. Talk to the school.
Thank you!
